INDEX STUDENT COMPETITION kicks off as a major part of INDEX, the region's longest-running design show.

The competition will provide an exciting opportunity for up-and-coming architects and designers to develop their skills - bridging academia with real world experience.

Fun – Imaginative – Innovative – Creative

Designing bathrooms fit for a star. Take it to the next level and create wet-and-dry areas designed especially for any celebrity you can think of, dead or alive, from Elon Musk to Marilyn Monroe or Drake! Make sure your design also features an extra dry space like a dressing closet or vanity suitable both for functionality — as well as adding that special touch of glamour celebrities are known for.

You will have to include a paragraph and inspiration photos from the celebrity’s life. It can be for their permanent home OR their vacation home (like Meryl Streep’s bathroom in central London or Malibu). After designing on laptop, you'll bring it to life through an USB drive presentation that could be judged at the end of this creative journey.

Designing for a client that may seem out of reach is not about following trends, it's an opportunity to create something unique and special. Not only does this provide you with invaluable experience, but also adds another impressive piece to your portfolio for future opportunities!

PROCESS

Students submit entries by

March 6th, 2023

Advisors (who will not be giving internships) will score and choose the top 18 - 20 students who will get internships by

March 17th, 2023

These 18 - 20 students will come to the showroom to present their ideas to the 9 judges who will battle it out to choose their selected interns

The selected 18 - 20 students will attend INDEX 2023 and present their winning project on Design Talks on

May 17th, 2023

CRITERIA

Submission Criteria and document

The competition is open for students from 2nd year to their last year (4/5th) if they can confirm to do the internship if they are selected. It is an individual project and not group project. There is no size restriction of the room however they will have to explain why they have selected a certain big/small space for the client (is it because of the research that they prefer small spaces or have smaller houses or maybe they found that this space will be good for them or anything of this sort)

The final document expected from the student is a PDF presentation with the below details mentioned in it:

Mood board
Concept
Plans/Layout

Visuals 2D/3D
Material specs
FF&E

A PDF presentation including all the above and other information they wish to provide will be uploaded.

The selected winners will be given a platform at INDEX 2023 to present their ideas in front of the entire audience with a total of 3-5 mins per student after which the design firm offering the internship will go on stage and present them with a certificate.
