It's one year until EXPO 2020 takes place from 1 October 2021 until 31 March 2022

For the second time, we’re one year to go until EXPO 2020, and this time organisers are championing hope amid adversity.

The event will run from 1 October 2021 until 31 March 2022, and will inspire hope among more than 190 participating countries and millions of visitors.

Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation, Director General of Expo 2020 Dubai Bureau, said:

Our leadership has spared no effort, guided us, and provided all resources to ensure that our World Expo will be a true expression of the UAE’s values, reflecting its ambition to build a better future for us, the region and the world – a future of which coming generations will be proud.

“Our World Expo has a mission to inspire hope, and in the coming weeks we will begin to share new details and ideas about space, health and wellness, travel and connectivity and other subjects that sit at the heart of this Expo. We hope that people will join us to achieve our objectives to bring the world together and put humanity and the planet on the right path towards dignity for all."

Progress on the Expo site has continued at pace, with more than 210 million work hours completed to date. Work in 2020 has focused on landscaping and fit-out of Expo-owned buildings, and the construction of Country Pavilions is on track to conclude by the end of the year.

Construction Week reports that the substructure of the pavilion is 96% complete, façade is 50% and the superstructure is about 40% complete. Pico International is the prime construction contractor of the UK Pavilion. The contractor was appointed following a tender issue in September 2018. The main consultant of the pavilion is Mace International (UK) Limited, with Dawson Consulting Architects and Engineers acting as the Architect of Record (AOR). Based on the theme “Innovation for a Share Future”, the UK organisers issued a press release this week calling for people from around the world, of all ages and from every walk of life, to collaborate and contribute to an amazing crowd-sourced piece of music that showcases the sounds of humanity.

The development of Poland’s pavilion at the upcoming Expo 2020 Dubai event is entering a ‘key phase’ as it is adapted to meet new guidance intended to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus, say its organisers. The pavilion is currently under construction and will celebrate the country’s combination of design, art and technological achievements. WXCA studio is responsible for the architectural and thematic concept with the build being carried out by a consortium comprising Międzynarodowe Targi Poznańskie and FM Aldentro.
