In my last article I spoke at length about Regional Décor Trends, highlighting how popular beige and neutral tones are with Home Box shoppers. Hot favorites (for a couple of seasons now!) have been blush and mint. According to WGSN and other leading trend forecasting agencies, these shades will take on a different avatar in Spring 2019. This winter season, we’re seeing their close cousins: burgundy and teal. Teal in fact has become a much-loved shade for us these past few months and has evolved into a staple along with emerald and other greens. It looks like green is the new beige at Home Box! Other than that, gold tones still work their magic on décor enthusiasts.
Co-ordinated décor sets are the next big thing. Customers like to create harmonious looks with neatly matched décor. Think lighting sets that consist of a floor lamp and ceiling light, to go along with mosaic décor accessories, gold or silver hammered vases in sets of two and so on. Tall floor vases are coming back into vogue and these will especially look great in larger spaces. Accessories could be either subtle or bold, it all comes down to individual taste. However, as per the feedback we get from our stores, it is clear that tradition plays a big role. Tried and tested looks with an Arab influence are go-tos among most customers, but younger customers and millennials do experiment with sleeker, more contemporary styling. We’re seeing a lot of interest in industrial style modern furniture with metallic legs, for instance.
While bling rules – think beaded napkin rings and beaded placemats which are best sellers – natural materials are rising in popularity, particularly marble finishes and textured metallics. We’ve also curated a collection of bamboo products that tie into the natural trend.
Fast forward a few months to early summer 2019, we’ve got two words for you: kava sets. Together with big trays, we’re expecting to see a boom in demand for these. Big dinner sets – 49-piece ones – are also popular at this time. When it comes to décor, lanterns are eternal favourites, and the Home Box shopper seems to prefer simpler, clear glass lanterns with gold trim over more ornate ones. We expect to see a surge in interest for our mosaic and hammered sets as well, which will be made available across multiple pieces for Ramadan.
Our inspiration for 2019 is definitely based around the two trend colours, mint and blush.
Our mint mood board features geometric prints across cushions and comforters. These carry a modern look and feel, which matches well with products from our monochrome, verbiage range. This range, which is all about self-expression features beautifully designed inspirational sayings and motivational quotes in picture frames, on cushions, mugs and more. But that’s not all. 2019 is all about mint bakeware, mint dinnerware, mint candles, mint lanterns… the list goes on! All of these products feature in our blush mood board as well, but here the look is more floral and feminine. Blush floral cushions, comforters and serveware offer a millennial take on a quintessential British design.
I would pair them up with silver metallic finishes and beiges. Throw in some candles and lanterns, and you’re seeing 2019 through rose tinted glasses.
Ultimately, this comes down to personal choice, but here are a few things I feel every house needs to make it come to life:
1. Candles in varying sizes and co-ordinated shades
3. Small lanterns – less ornate, every day styles
4. Bedding sets
5. Framed pictures
