Pooja Solanki: Three design tips to ensure your self-styled home office is a hive of productivity
The home office has become more than a trend of late. People working from home try their best to find a way to accommodate an innovative and inspirational working environment. Home offices with a sophisticated atmosphere are a sum of all their decorative and functional elements. Elegant solutions for a dynamic home working environment can be found in creative details such as custom-built shelves, a comfortable chair or potted plants. Whether you work from a spacious home office or a small corner in your living room, the essence of your work remains the same.
There are no hard and fast laws for organizing or creating space for your home office. But, there are some rough principles that guide us to ensure a great result every time. Consider this a foundation for developing your own quirky, creative, rule-breaking intuition. Here are my three tips for creating an attractive and practical work space.
Location and Lighting
Location and adequate amount of natural light or artificial lighting are very important for this space. You’ll likely spend many hours in your home office, so don't stuff yourself in a tiny space where there is no view or window. Spaces filled with light help reduce stress by reminding us of the world outside. An office flooded by natural light and constructed from carefully chosen details and natural colours will reset your mind everytime you look up from the computer screen.
Invest in a great chair
A comfortable office chair is of utmost importance for those spending a lot of time at a desk, so make sure you choose one that is both supporting and aesthetically pleasing.
Choose homey accessories
Decorating your home office with personal items, jovial colours and flowers bring a feeling of comfort that you rarely get outside the home. Accessories like a pretty mug for a pencil holder, trendy notepads, sticky notes, and a decorative waste basket can fill up space, giving it a more special touch. Wrap your bulletin board in a gorgeous fabric, hang inspirational prints and art on the walls, or showcase decorative greenery that exudes a sense of pure joy. Organization is key to starting every work day fresh and helps you manage your time. Using baskets, boxes and colourful organizers for files and documents could not only save you valuable time but also create the order you need.
