The future’s bright…so be bold with colour
Graeme Erens is the CEO of Genius Loci, a branding design firm based in Dubai. He took time out his busy schedule to talk INDEX through how the colour forecast is looking for 2017. His verdict? It’s all about incorporating bold, bright colours into simplistic designs. That simple addition, he says, adds the element of expressiveness that will define the next 12 months.
He said: “On the branding side there is certainly a move away from multicoloured identities towards simpler colours, such as greys, blacks, charcoals and slates, complimented by very bright primary colours.
“In interior design, there’s a move away from the golds and bronzes towards Champagnes, matte silvers, and satin finished materials.
“And in the hardwoods and the hardstones, lighter colours, whiter colours – almost with external finishes – and polished interior applications.
“Cladding on buildings we’ve certainly seen its maintained a rhythm of black, grey and silver but certainly with a compliment of bright, popping colours on the exteriors of buildings.
“I think in the coming year we’re looking forward to seeing a bigger use of brighter, bolder colours, and quite expressive brands and expressive environments.”
